Today there are so many famous sauces – you have the Wingstop sauce range, McDonald’s Schezuan sauce, KFC honey barbeque sauce or even more commercially-made sauces like Tabasco. However, it’s shocking that no one is freaking out about Red Robins Campfire sauce.
Granted, there aren’t as many Red Robin restaurants as for example McDonald’s and they are obviously not located world-wide, but I am still shocked that this incredible sauce isn’t the talk of the town.
They have a large range of signature sauces, but their Campfire Mayo is my favorite! It is a very smoky, slightly spicy creamy sauce made from mainly mayonnaise and barbeque sauce.
The focus of this sauce is on the smoky flavors which are obtained by using a smoky barbeque sauce and chipotle ingredients.
Chipotle is made from dried jalapeno peppers that have been smoked. It has an incredibly potent and intense flavor that needs to be balanced to appreciate it – and Red Robin has done just that with this sauce.
Both the Tabasco Chipotle sauce and the dried chipotle powder adds this smoky element as well as a bit of kick for those spice-lovers.
This sauce is incredibly easy to make – it’s almost impossible to believe. And, you probably already have most, if not all, of the ingredients at home.
You can use this sauce in a large number of ways including, obviously, as a dipping sauce, as a salad dressing, a topping, a marinade or basting sauce or use it in casseroles to add flavor.
It pairs wonderfully with many different ingredients, both meats and vegetables. You will never run out of ways to use this sauce and it is a must-have recipe at your home.
How To Make Red Robins Campfire Sauce
This is arguably the quickest sauce I have ever made!
Simply whisk together all of the ingredients and you are done – shockingly easy, right?
Store this campfire sauce in an air-tight container for up to two weeks in the refrigerator.
Tips & Tricks
There are, however, a few tips and tricks I would recommend to make your sauce even better if you can believe that!
- Firstly, I would highly recommend allowing your sauce to rest in the refrigerator for at least an hour. This will help the ingredients to marinate with each other to create a beautiful, unique symphony of flavors.
- Because this sauce is so simplistic and you are using ingredients as-is, use very good quality products. This doesn’t necessarily mean expensive ingredients.
- Never store sauces in plastic containers. They usually have stains and odors from previous foods that have been stored in them and will impart those flavors in your sauce. Rather opt for a clean, glass container that can seal properly – like a mason jar.
- This sauce can very easily be made vegetarian or vegan as your mayonnaise is most likely the only ingredient that would need to be substituted. There are tons of vegan mayonnaises at your local grocery store.
What To Serve This With
This sauce, unlike most, is very versatile. You can use it in almost any way you would like.
- Of course, you can use it as a dipping sauce. Use it for deep-fried onion rings, chicken strips or even tempura vegetables. It also goes great with any form of potato, be it skinny fries, potato wedges, baked potato or tater tots – your options are endless.
- Next, you can serve them as a topping. They are great with a juicy beef burger or even on a sandwich – make a delicious smoky chicken mayo club sandwich.
- Here is where this sauce will blow your mind; use it as a marinade for chicken or beef. Simply slather the meat piece in this flavorful sauce, cover with saran wrap and allow it to marinate in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Remove the meat from the sauce and either pan-fry, bake or roast the meat until fully cooked.
You will be left with a juicy, flavor-packed piece of meat that will leave your guests stuffed yet craving more.
- Instead of marinating with this sauce, you can also baste your meat or vegetables with it while they are cooking.
- You can thin this sauce down to create a beautiful smoky, creamy salad dressing. I wouldn’t recommend using it with fresh salads (but of course you can if you want to). Rather use it on pasta salads or even make a potato salad with it.
- Lastly, you can use this sauce as part of a casserole or soup – yes, you read that correctly! This sauce will add tons of flavor to any dish and is very easy to incorporate and adjust.
Conclusion
As you can see, a sauce that is extremely easy and quick to make that will most certainly be a new family favorite.
It is extremely versatile and is an easy go-to sauce if you need to add flavor to literally anything!
