Did you know that taste is one of the senses most strongly associated with memories? If you’ve ever been to Disneyland then you’ll no doubt have plenty of happy memories. What nicer way to relive them than with our very own homemade Disneyland Corn Dog recipe? We are going to tell you everything you need to know so you’ll be able to make these delicious treats at home. We’ll try not to be too Goofy.
How To Make a Disneyland Corn Dog
Disneyland corn dogs are a real treat. We aren’t quite sure whether they count as a savory snack. As there’s more than a little bit of sugar in our recipe, and some honey too!
That said if you are going to be making your way around all of the rides, and other fun things to do at Disneyland, it makes sense to eat some food that is going to keep your energy up and is super tasty too.
If you’ve ever had an official Disneyland Corn Dog, you’ll know that the batter is ever so slightly fluffy. And there is a reason for this. It relies on a little bit of ‘help’ to make it light. We use baking powder in our recipe. But be careful not to add too much or you will end up with a metallic tasting dog.
The baking powder requires an ‘acid’ to activate it. In this recipe we have used buttermilk as our acid. So, you’ll end up with a crispy and fluffy coating, it works in exactly the same way in buttermilk pancakes.
These homemade Disneyland Corn Dogs are really easy to make, and require next to nothing in the way of specialist equipment. You will need a bowl, a whisk, a tall glass and a pan in order to cook your them.
Tips and tricks
Batter consistency
The key to absolutely nailing this Disney Corn Dog recipe is in the batter. Well we’ll be honest this is the only thing that you actually make, we’ll save homemade hot dogs for another time. If you make your batter too thick you are going to end up with a chewy and maybe slightly doughy Corn Dog.
Likewise, if your batter is too thin you are going to end up with a deep-fried naked corn dog… and nobody wants a naked corn dog! Too thin means the batter simply won’t stick.
So, here’s a tip.
Make your batter in a bowl and then give it a little dip with a normal dessert spoon. Hold the spoon over the bowl. If it has stopped dripping after 5 seconds, it should be good to use. If it isn’t dripping it means you’ve gone too thick.
If it carries on dripping you’ve gone too thin. If it’s too thick use a splash more buttermilk to loosen it up. Too thin? Add tablespoon of flour.
Dipping your dogs
If you don’t have a tall glass this isn’t a deal breaker and you’ll still be able to make these, but you might have to tilt the bowl to get an even coating.
If you’ve tried an official Disney Corn Dog, one thing that makes them nice is a thoroughly even coating. The way to achieve this is by coating them vertically, not horizontally. This means dipping them head first. To do that you are going to need a tall glass.
It doesn’t have to be huge. Just enough to completely submerge your dog headfirst as he goes for a dip. If you are using a bowl instead just ensure it is wide enough to completely ‘soak and roll’ your ‘dog. Ps don’t overfill your glass as you’ll find that the level of batter goes up as you submerge your corn dog.
Freeze for later
Kids love copycat Disneyland Corn Dogs. Kids are also impatient. Don’t worry we get it. The best thing about this recipe is that once you have made a batch you can freeze them. Just make the corndogs as per the recipe and allow to cool on a wire rack. Freeze them individually in kitchen wrap. To get a taste of Disneyland whenever you like, just place them in a 390 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Magic.

The best bit is that they can be made ahead, so if you have something planned, cook up a batch in advance and just reheat them on the day. What’s your most memorable experience of Disneyland (apart from the Corn Dogs of course)? Why not let us know in the comments below. Thanks for reading. Enjoy.
