A perfectly poached egg should have a runny yolk with an opaque white that has just set. The key to this recipe is to be careful not to overcook the egg, unless you are going for a firm yolk of course. Microwaves are powerful and that’s why we suggest cooking the eggs at 5-% power. FAQs

How can I poach and egg with a firm or soft yolk?

If you like your egg yolk more firm, all you have to do is pierce the yolk with with a toothpick before you put it in the microwave and cook for only 1 minute. This will result in a runny, soft yolk, perfect for topping toasted bread. If you are looking for a firmer yolk, microwave additional 15 seconds in increments until you achieve your preferred yolk doneness.

Why do you poke a hole in the yolk?

Poking a small hole in the yolk of your egg before putting it in the microwave allows any steam to escape from the egg. We do this so there is no explosion in the microwave, which are common issues when cooking eggs in the microwave.
