FAQs

Do I have to soak my potatoes in water?

Yes! As soon as a potato is sliced, it starts releasing startch, so immediately placing it into cold water will remove the startch. Startch will make your potato chips soft, removing it will make them perfectly crispy. You can also opt to wash your potato slices under cold water until the water runs clear. I just find it much easier to add them all to a ball of ice water right after I slice them.

What kind of potato should I use?

It doesn’t really matter! Have fun, experiment, and let me know what potatoes you end up using in the comments! This recipe will work with any potatoes, but I do prefer russet potatoes because it is accessible and affordable.

Are microwaved potato chips healthier than store bought?

Of course! There are no preservatives in these potato chips or any nasty inflammatory seed oils such as canola or vegetable oil. You know exactly where all of the ingredients are coming from and just how much you are using. You can use this recipe to make a single serving just for you or to share with another person, totally up to you!
