Yum Yum Sauce Recipe

If you have never heard of Yum Yum sauce, your life is about to change!

This sauce is also known as White sauce (even though it has a pale pink color) or Sakura sauce and is found in Japanese steakhouses. There it is referred to as a Japanese Hibachi sauce.

yum yum dip

It is a seven ingredient dipping sauce that is often served with shrimp or fried rice. It is incredibly versatile and you can experiment and use it in other dishes such as casseroles and stir-fries or as a topping with burgers or dumplings – there is an endless amount of possibilities.

What is even better is that you can make this sauce at a fraction of the cost.

As with any recipe, there are a few variations out there and you can easily experiment with the ingredients in this sauce as well.

This sauce has to sit for a while to allow all the flavors to marinate and merge with each other. It is worth the wait and definitely not a step I would skip.

Prepare to have your mind blown and have a new favorite sauce recipe that takes a few minutes to make and can be used in a ton of ways.

How To Make Yum Yum Sauce

This recipe is incredibly easy to make. You can make it in three different ways, each being incredibly easy and quicker than the last.

Simply combine all of the ingredients, except for the water, in a mixing bowl and whisk until it is well mixed.

If you are making a large batch, you can blend the ingredients together in a food processor, blender or stick blender.

If you want to make a thinner sauce, for a salad dressing perhaps, simply add the water until you have reached the desired consistency.

Allow the sauce to rest in the refrigerator and marinate overnight.

Serve with a wide variety of dishes as a dipping sauce, dressing or incorporated into a bigger recipe.

This homemade yum yum sauce is quick and easy to make and is very cost-effective compared to buying some at the store. It has a lot of potential and can be used in many different ways with many different dishes. Be ready to be the new talk of the town with this perfect all-rounder sauce!

    Ingredients

    • 16 ounces mayonnaise

    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

    • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

    • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

    • 2 teaspoons onion powder

    • 1 ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

    • ¼ cup water

    • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

    Directions

    • There are a few ways you can make this Yum Yum sauce, all of them very quick and very easy.
    • The first way is to combine all of the ingredients, except for the water, in a mixing bowl and whisking it until everything is fully and evenly incorporated.
    • The second method, especially if you have a thick, gelatinous mayonnaise, is to place all of the ingredients in a food processor. You can blend until all the ingredients until they are evenly incorporated, about 10-15 seconds.
    • If you do not have a food processor, a blender or stick blender will also work just as well.
    • Using a food processor or blender will save you a lot of effort, not that it requires much effort to begin with, if you need to make large batches of the sauce.
    • Add the water to the blended sauce if you want to adjust the consistency to use the sauce as a salad dressing.
    • Decant the sauce into a glass jar and marinate the sauce in the refrigerator overnight or up to 24 hours. This improves the flavor considerably and brings out all the spices.
    • The sauce will last for 2-3 weeks if stored properly.

    Notes

    • I always recommend Hellman’s or Duke’s mayonnaise as they are generally healthier than others and has a great taste and consistency – perfect for making mayo-based sauces.

    What To Serve This With

Use your Benihana Yum Yum sauce as a dipping sauce for vegetables or any other type of finger food.

It also goes great with shrimp and can even replace the traditional shrimp cocktail sauce.

Sushi is also another great way to show off your new sauce. You can either use it instead of plain mayonnaise or you can add it on the side to use as a dipping sauce.

You can also easily create an amazing salad dressing using this Yum Yum sauce as a base – or even as is!

As we have briefly mentioned, you can also use this recipe in many casseroles and stir-fries – all you have to do is experiment a bit to find the right flavor combinations. Here’s a simple guideline; Asian flavors go great with this sauce.

    Tips & Tricks

    • If you do not have any tomato paste, or simply do not like the concentrated flavor of it, you can use ketchup or a thick tomato juice instead.
    • You can reduce the amount of granulated sugar in the recipe if you are using a ketchup or tomato juice with a high sugar amount.
    • If you want to add some spice to your authentic Yum Yum sauce, you can use any hot sauce of your choice or a chili paste. If you do not have any sauce or paste, a dried form, like cayenne or red pepper flakes, can also work.
    • You can adjust the consistency of the sauce by reducing the amount of water or adding more water. If you decide to add ketchup or tomato juice, be sure to take the consistency into account before adding the water.
    • If you need to store the Yum Yum sauce in a plastic container, make sure it does not have any stains or flavors that have been imparted in it. This residual color and flavor will be imparted into your Yum Yum sauce and affect the flavor.

    Conclusion

As you can see, this sauce is perfect for those who love meal prep. You can make it ahead and use it in many dishes or simply to spice up the less exciting ones.

A very tasty sauce that takes minutes to make, why would you want to look any further?

    Bisquick Peanut Butter Cookies Recipe

Baking cookies should be a joyful thing, but I have begun to notice all these elaborate, expensive and time-consuming recipes on the internet. Not the case with these Bisquick peanut butter cookies though but more on that in a minute.

    peanut butter cookies

They always have all these requirements for what cookies should and shouldn’t be and I say no more! Cookies are supposed to be easy, convenient and quick to make – otherwise, why bother at all, am I right?

So these Bisquick Peanut Butter Cookies are perfect to revive that love for baking! It uses the Bisquick Original Pancake and Baking mix and I must say, I don’t think I will ever make anything from scratch again!

Keeping a box of this mix in your pantry will save you a ton of time, especially if you have to make last-minute goodies.

Unlike most cookies that have very specific textures when baked, these can be baked to create either chewy cookies or incredibly delicious crispy ones!

It is also very easy to change the flavor of the cookie by swapping the peanut butter with any other tasty spread – using chocolate and almond spreads are my favorites. And the best part, you don’t even have to change anything else in the recipe; amazing!

Let’s bring back those good old fashioned quick and easy cookies, starting with this one! You won’t be disappointed!

How To Make Bisquick Peanut Butter Cookies

Line a cookie or baking sheet with non-stick baking paper or non-stick cooking spray.

In a large bowl, combine the peanut butter, condensed milk and vanilla extract. Mix the ingredients until they are fully mixed. Add the Bisquick baking mix and mix until a smooth, pliable dough forms.

Divide the dough into 12 balls using an ice cream or cookie scoop. Space the dough balls about 2 inches apart before gently pressing them down with a fork.

Cover the cookies with saran or plastic wrap before placing them in the fridge so they can rest.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Before baking the cookies, sprinkle a bit of brown sugar over them. For soft cookies, bake them between 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. For crispier cookies, bake them for a few additional minutes.

Remove them from the oven and allow them to cool before serving them with a cold glass of milk.

This Bisquick peanut butter cookie recipe is the best and nothing can change my mind! It uses 4 ingredients, only takes a few minutes to make and can be easily made into other flavors. Why would you need any other recipe?

      Ingredients

      • 1 cup creamy peanut butter

      • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk

      • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

      • 1 cup Bisquick Original Pancake and Baking Mix

      Directions

      • Line a baking or cookie sheet with non-stick baking paper or a non-stick cooking spray. Alternatively, you can use a baking silicone mat.
      • In a large mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. Mix the ingredients together until they are fully incorporated into each other.
      • Add the Bisquick Original Pancake and Baking Mix and continue mixing until a pliable dough forms.
      • Divide the dough into 12 equal balls using an ice-cream or cookie dough scoop. Alternatively, you can use two big tablespoons to divide and shape the dough. These cookies won’t spread much in the oven, so you can place all twelve, evenly spaced on a standard-sized baking or cookie sheet.
      • Gently push down each ball using a fork. You can make a criss-cross pattern if you’d like. Cover the sheet with plastic or saran wrap and place it in the refrigerator to rest for at least 1 hour. This will help the cookies hold their shape during baking and not spread flat.
      • About 30 minutes before you are ready to bake the cookies, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
      • Sprinkle the cookies with a bit of brown sugar before baking them in a hot oven for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown. This will give you a very soft cookie. For crispier cookies, bake for a few additional minutes, making sure that they don’t brown too much or burn.
      • Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on a cooling rack before serving them with a nice cup of coffee or tea.

      Notes

      • You can use an electric hand-held mixer that will allow you to combine the ingredients quicker and more efficiently than mixing by hand. For large batches of cookies, use a stand (countertop) mixer.
      • You can substitute the peanut butter with any other nut-butter or creamy spread, as long as they are smooth. This will allow you to use this recipe as a base for many other flavors.

      Tips & Tricks

      • You can also add other ingredients such as chopped nuts or chocolate chips. These ingredients should be added before all of the Bisquick mix has been incorporated. This will prevent you from overworking the dough.
      • To store the baked cookies, place them in an air-tight container and keep them in a cool, dark area of the pantry. These cookies can easily last up to two weeks if stored properly.

      Alternatively, you can freeze these cookies in two different ways;

Firstly, you can shape the cookies, flatten them with the fork and freeze them on the baking sheet in a single layer before placing them all in an air-tight freezer-safe container.

To bake these cookies, simply place them in the oven and bake; no thawing required!

The second method is to fully bake the cookies, allow them to cool completely and then freeze them in a single layer on a baking tray. Once frozen solid, you can place them in an airtight-freezer safe container.

The frozen cookies (both the dough and the baked cookies) should be baked or consumed within a month of making for the best possible flavor and texture.

      Conclusion

I can guarantee you that this is going to be a new family favorite, and why wouldn’t it be!

They take a few minutes to make, they are incredibly easy and you can even change the flavor without changing any other part of the recipe! All thanks to this amazing and convenient Bisquick baking mix.

Watch out world, the ultimate cookie has arrived!

      What To Serve With Sushi?

Have you ever hosted a sushi night? If you have, then you know that it can quickly become a very expensive spread. Even if you only make or buy sushi-for-one. The best way to cut back on hours and hours of making sushi, and a way to save you some money, is to serve the sushi with some delicious accompaniments. But, figuring out what to serve with sushi can be a challenge.

      what goes with sushi

Although sushi isn’t always served with many side dishes, there are actually tons of very popular options. Some of them are actually dishes that can stand on their own, and some are ingredients that go exceptionally well with sushi.

There are no set rules when it comes to pairing side dishes with sushi. At the end of the day, it is all up to you and your personal preference.

You can easily adjust any side dish or accompaniment to compliment the flavors of your sushi. For example, if you are serving sushi that contains mango, you can add fresh mango to a salad. If you are making sushi with cucumber, you can serve it with pickled cucumber.

The rules are generally to pair foods with similar tasting foods, or to pair foods with opposite flavors (pair salty foods with sweet foods, etc.).

However, if you still have no idea where to start when choosing side dishes, below is a list of some of my favorite ingredients, side dishes, accompaniments, beverages and desserts that goes great with sushi.

      14 Sushi Side Dishes

If you were stuck beforehand knowing what goes well with sushi, then after reading these options you’ll be spoilt for choice. We’ve listed 14 different sides for sushi that you can’t go wrong with.

      1. Miso Soup

This is my number one go-to side dish when I am having sushi. Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup made from dashi stock (a type of fish stock) and miso paste (a fermented soybean paste).

All the savory umami flavors of this soup will perfectly accompany any milder tasting sushi pieces and could even be an alternative dipping sauce to the traditional soy sauce.

      2. Suimono soup

      Suimono soup

This is another very popular Japanese clear soup. It is very similar to miso soup, being different when it comes to the ingredients used. This soup uses primarily meats and vegetables to produce a broth.

This soup can be served in the same way Miso soup could; as a side dish for sushi or as an alternative condiment.

      3. Tsukemono (Japanese pickles)

Pickled ginger is one of the most popular accompaniments served with sushi. Pickled ingredients have a sweet-acidic flavor profile which beautifully complements virtually any seafood dish.

However, you don’t only have to serve pickled ginger. Make pickled Takuan (daikon), Umeboshi (sour plums), Shibazuke (mix of cucumbers and eggplants) and Kyurizuke (Japanese cucumbers).

      4. Ohitashi

      Ohitashi

This is a traditional and very popular Japanese Green salad. It is made from vegetables (mostly leafy greens) that are steeped in dashi (a type of stock).

The dashi gives this dish a very umami taste that is still subtle enough to remain neutral. It is the perfect side dish for sushi with stronger flavor queues.

      5. Tempura

      Tempura

Tempura is such a classic side dish for sushi. Tempura is a classification for foods that have been deep-fried in a crispy and fluffy batter (not a panko breadcrumb batter). These foods are usually shrimp or a variety of vegetables.

This is a delicious accompaniment that has tons of texture and can accompany virtually any sushi dish.

      6. Wakame salad

      Wakame salad

A Wakame salad consists of seaweed, fresh cucumber and a salty-sweet sesame dressing. You could also add non-traditional ingredients to compliment the flavors that can be found in the sushi.

This salad, like any type of salad, is a simple, yet effective and light side dish that all your guests will enjoy.

      7. Eggplant

      Eggplant

Eggplant is a very sweet and smoky vegetable that is very often used in Japanese cuisine. You can try to incorporate it into your sushi or side dish, especially salads.

Eggplant is also a great vegetable to pickle (for Tsukemono).

      8. Edamame

      Edamame

Edamame pods are immature soybeans in a pod. They can be served fresh or cooked, with slightly sweet and juicy flavors being most present.

Try to incorporate these beans in other side dishes, however, they can also be served as a snack or a palate cleanser.

      9. Green tea

      green tea

Green tea is an amazing and versatile Japanese drink that can be served either hot, iced or at room temperature. This is a very flavorful drink that will perfectly complement the sushi and other accompaniments.

You can also use the green tea in other dishes, or even create your own. Make a refreshing green tea ice cream or individual bite-sized green tea pound cakes.

      10. Dango

      Dango

A dessert option would definitely have to be Dango. Dango is a sweet Japanese dumpling made from mochiko. There are many, many different flavors so you can easily coordinate them with your sushi flavors.

This is also a popular dish to be served with green tea.

      11. Gyoza

      gyoza

Think of these as potstickers as that is essentially what they are. Gyoza (or Jiaozi) are half-moon dumplings that are filled (with usually vegetable fillings) and boiled, pan-fried or deep-fried.

Like sushi, they are also served with condiments such as soy sauce or other sweet, sour and salty sauces.

They are incredibly delicious and have amazing textures. You can coordinate the flavors with those from your sushi.

      12. Kani Salad

      Kani Salad

For any side dish or accompaniment, you can never go wrong with a salad. A Kani salad is especially fitting as it mainly contains imitation crab, lettuce, cucumber, carrots and a Japanese mayonnaise.

This salad contains very Japanese flavors that are very often found in the majority of sushi items and will therefore easily be compatible and delicious.

You can even add other ingredients that are in your sushi, like mango!

      13. Tamagoyaki

      Tamagoyaki

Tamagoyaki is a type of Japanese omelet that is cooked with multiple layers of egg. Imagine a sheet of egg that has been rolled up.

Like most egg dishes, Tamagoyaki has a very neutral-flavored side dish that won’t overpower the sushi at all.

      14. Beer

      beer

Yes, you read that right, beer. Beer has always been a very popular beverage in Western culture, but it has become more and more popular as a beverage for other cuisines as well.

Try a Japanese beer that will complement the flavors of your sushi and other accompaniments. There are many beer tasting and pairing guides online that will help you choose the perfect beer for the perfect spread.

      Conclusion

As you can see, there are tons of items that can be served with sushi. Try to experiment with flavors and push the boundaries to find new and unique flavor combinations.
